Kyoto in October is extraordinary on its own — the Kyoto Art Triennale filling the city's temples and machiyas with contemporary work, the light turning gold over the hills. Most visitors stop there.
This journey goes further: a single night at a Welcome Dinner in Kyoto, curated around Kameoka's harvest, and a full day inside TSUCHI FEST — a festival of soil, fermentation, and farming culture that exists nowhere else, built by the farmers and food producers of a valley most international travellers never see.
It closes with a retreat of your choosing — Kyoto and Shiga, the mountains of Nagano, or the fermentation traditions of Tokushima — before ending in Tokyo. Nine nights, one continuous story, told through food, place, and people.

Signature evening
Arrive in Kyoto and settle into your premium-class hotel. In the evening, gather for a special Kameoka Gastronomy Dinner at one of Kyoto's most coveted tables, reserved exclusively for our group. The menu is built around the ingredients, landscapes and producers of Kameoka — an introduction to the region before meeting the people behind the food in the days ahead.
8–10 October
Depart for Tokushima, approximately two and a half hours from Kyoto, crossing to the island of Shikoku. Here, indigo dyeing, fermentation, agriculture, and centuries-old pilgrimage routes have shaped a distinctive culture rooted in the landscape. Explore traditional fermentation cellars, meet local producers and artisans, and experience Tokushima through its food culture — culminating in special dining experiences bringing together local ingredients, craftspeople, and leading chefs.

CHOOSE YOUR EXPERIENCE
Choose how you would like to experience another side of Kyoto's relationship between soil, art, craft and architecture. Kyoto Art YouMe Triennale — curated signature experience Discover the inaugural Kyoto YouMe Triennale, “Manifesto,” staged primarily at Shōseien Garden and Shigenobu Kaikan, with satellite exhibitions across Kyoto. A curated journey through contemporary art, design and craft in dialogue with Kyoto's centuries-old culture of making. The Triennale runs from 9–18 October, so guests may also visit independently at any time during the festival period. Soil Architecture & Artisan Program Explore Japan's extraordinary earthen-wall architecture and the knowledge embedded within it. Bamboo, clay, straw, soil and other natural materials are transformed into architecture born from the satoyama landscape — an inherently circular relationship between people, buildings, agriculture and the land. Led by one of Japan's foremost sakan plaster masters, together with craftspeople restoring Kameoka's traditional kominka farmhouses.
12 October
★ Main festival day
The heart of the journey. Spend a full day immersed in TSUCHI FEST, bringing together farmers, producers, chefs, researchers, artisans and communities around one shared starting point: soil. The day includes field experiences, tastings, conversations with farmers and fermentation producers, and dishes created by international guest chefs in collaboration with the people and ingredients of Kameoka. Closing Dinner & Onsen — After the festival, travel into the countryside for a celebratory dinner and onsen experience in Kameoka, a quiet ending to the main festival journey.
13–16 October
Choose your retreat
Continue beyond the festival with a deeper regional journey. Choose between: Kyoto & Shiga — satoyama landscapes, water culture, crafts, agriculture and communities shaped by the relationship between mountains and Lake Biwa. Nagano — mountain agriculture, wild foods, foraging, forests, and the food traditions of Japan's alpine landscapes. Each retreat offers a more intimate encounter with the people, ecosystems and everyday practices that sustain regional food culture.
16 October
Conclude the journey with a final stay in Tokyo — or Kyoto, if you prefer — with independent time to explore, reflect and enjoy Japan at your own pace before your onward journey home.
